I use Time Machine as a convenience measure. I suggest using it because it's free and built in. Super easy to connect an old hard drive every now and then. It also supports multiple rotating drives. Apple still supports it and revamped it to run on APFS. It's apparently gotten better over the years but I would not trust it to be my only source of backup. Too many horror stories. No backup is a million times better than none though and it's a lot easier to convince people to flip a switch than install and set up or pay for something else :) I use a combination of Arq, Backblaze, and good old fashioned copies of mission critical stuff.
